  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • ½ cup Christmas-colored sprinkles (jimmies)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 3 tablespoons buttermilk (plus more as needed)
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
  • Nonpareils, for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×5-inch aluminum loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine the wet ingredients: buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and almond extract.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined; fold in the sprinkles.
  5. Transfer the batter to the prepared loaf pan and bake for 45–50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Cool for 5 minutes in the pan before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Prepare the glaze by whisking sifted powdered sugar with buttermilk and corn syrup until smooth, then drizzle over cooled bread.
